The main reason I am writing is to bring to your attention the proposed development at Cavo Sidero/ Itanos. You may have already heard of the scheme. In short, a British company, Minoan Group
http://www.minoangroup.com/, is proposing to build a 7000-bed, luxury golf resort on the peninsula. This is a declared Natura 2000 Special Protection Area (SPA # GR432003). The developers claim to be "green" but Oliver and I, and other colleagues, have read their 1000+ page EIS and find it to be poorly integrated and in some cases entirely wrong.
As you know well the peninsula is home to several endemic plants, but it also preserves a unique archaeological landscape. We know the area well because for the last two years we have been conducting environmental and archaeological research there.
We feel strongly that the proposed golf resort would be an environmental and cultural disaster and have recently posted an online petition protesting its construction.

The court case, which has been postponed 3 times, is now set for May 9th. Time is short. So, if you agree with our position, please sign the petition and pass it on.
